Omi, You Rock

It just so happens that one of my friends is an artist of great talent as well as being a fantastic person to know.

I first “met” Naomi in the Fark Forum, which incidentally was where I met my husband and a great many other friends, Dee among them. Naomi called herself “therajwithsubtitles”. It took me a while to understand that it was “the raj with subtitles” instead of “theraj with subtitles”, because everyone called her “theraj” when they talked to her.

Later I got to know her better, and I got to see her work. I’m impressed every time I see a new one. Lately she educated me about a painting by another artist, and what the meaning of the piece was. It means to me that she is serious about her work, as she should be. If I had the money, I’d buy one of her pieces. As it is, I’m considering buying bookmarks from her. She has an eye for the aesthetic, as well as being an enthusiastic fan of anime, which recommends her to me also. She’s head and shoulders above me in terms of what she knows about anime and art. That’s because she can execute an image of what’s in her mind’s eye, whereas I can only appreciate it and know what’s good. What I know is that she’s good. I hope that one day she’ll get noticed by someone who can place her work where it belongs and where it can be seen.

Naomi’s art blows me away. I know f-all about anime, or art either for that matter, but to me she paints pure emotion, you know?

I know, I’d always be “O hai Thera J!” in my head in the forum. :/

I agree. As a matter of fact, I think art is how Naomi articulates her emotions. The anime is just another part of what I like about her.

I miss the old days in the forum. It’s just not the same anymore, is it? A couple of people got to know each other, and some of them abused the privilege, and I think that’s why a lot of people never came back, or if they did, they don’t have the same vibe they used to.

Mmm-hm. And apparently one of them went full-on batshit. It’s like she barged in and took over and made everyone around her into a bitch. They busted her in a big whopper of a lie, and haven’t seen her since. Thank God. But she did her damage.

I must have missed that. I may have left already at that point. I just remember there being some very nice and intelligent people there, like Kev and NuttyBunny and Tay and you and Freks and of course, Theraj, but my favorite was Lackssocialskillz….Him, I married.

  • Dee

Yeah, he was kinda cool, too. ;)

Um, I’m late to the party… But I liked being called Thera J, too. Or Raj. There were a lot of variations I liked.

I miss the forum… I had tried going back a few times, but I always felt unwelcome after a while, and I think I may have encountered the crazy person of whom you speak in one of my stints there… It’s a shame, because I found it a great comfort to talk to you guys and the forum peeps.

Thanks again for being so cool about my work, you two. It’s wonderful to have you especially understand what I paint, because… yeah, because it’s the only way I know to truly show my inner self, the one I don’t know how to show anybody. That you guys accept and like it well… yeah. It’s really, truly wonderful, at the risk of being gushy.

I don’t go there much anymore either. Nobody talks, or nobody remembers you.

I really do like your work, Naomi. You’re talented, and maybe one day you’ll be granted the exposure you need to show the world what you can do. All you need is a chance.
